Construction and scaffolding safety nets: protection, privacy screen, and advertising space
Scaffolding nets offer more than just safety: Whether as a safety measure or advertising space, they serve many purposes on a construction site. Scaffolding nets, also called construction and safety nets, are made of robust plastic mesh and are attached to facade scaffolding. They protect people and objects from falling objects while simultaneously shielding the view of the construction site. A printed net protects and advertises at the same time – double effect for your construction site.
What is a scaffolding net?
A scaffolding net is a technical safety system that is mounted on construction scaffolding. These construction safety nets reliably protect people and objects from falling parts or dust. They also protect the construction site from weather influences such as wind, rain, or snow.
Typical areas of application for scaffolding nets are:
- Roof work: Protection from falling tools or building materials
- Work on platforms: Securing open work areas
- Bridge construction: Side protection and wind reduction at elevated work areas
- Excavation work: Protection at construction sites in road and canal construction
- Outdoor Events: Wind protection, privacy screen, and advertising space at the same time
Scaffolding nets are required whenever there is a potential hazard to people or property from falling materials. They are thus an essential component of construction site safety and actively contribute to compliance with legal regulations.
The following regulations govern the use of safety nets on construction sites:
- EN 1263-1 (European standard for safety nets on construction sites): This standard defines the requirements for material quality, tear resistance, mesh size, and labeling. It is the most important basis for safety nets in scaffolding.
- DGUV Regulation 38 (Accident Prevention Regulation for Construction Work): Specifies in which situations construction safety nets must be used – for example, when working over traffic areas or in busy locations.
- DIN 53857 (Testing of Textiles): This standard regulates the testing of mechanical properties such as tensile strength and tear propagation resistance of textile fabrics.
What types of scaffolding nets are there?
When choosing the right scaffolding net, various factors play a role. Depending on the construction project, there are different requirements for material, mesh size, and safety. You should also consider the weather conditions – such as wind load or UV radiation. Therefore, the suitable construction safety net depends on the intended use, the weather, and ultimately the desired advertising effect.
Scaffolding safety nets – also printed
The durable fabric of our scaffolding safety nets is specially designed for facade scaffolding. It protects against falling materials, dampens dust and wind. Additionally, you can combine protection and advertising with these nets, as they can be fully printed, UV-resistant, and long-lasting. The large area of the printable scaffolding safety nets is suitable for your logo, a slogan, or construction site information.
We use high-quality digital printing in the solvent process, which is specifically designed for durable outdoor applications. This process is based on solvent-based inks that penetrate deep into the fabric, achieving particularly strong adhesion. The prints are waterproof, UV-resistant, and extremely abrasion-resistant – even under intense weather conditions and long-term outdoor use. Since only a few providers implement this technology professionally, you benefit from a true quality advantage at bannerstop.
Cover nets
Cover nets are made of particularly lightweight and breathable material, making them perfect for wind-sensitive scaffolding areas. Their structured surface ensures that wind resistance is reduced while providing a certain level of privacy. These construction safety nets are preferably used for short-term construction projects, in city centers, on listed buildings, or at events. Due to their low weight, they can be easily attached and just as quickly removed.
Side protection net
A side protection net secures open scaffolding edges and prevents falls as well as the dropping of materials. Especially on scaffolding sides that are not fully enclosed, it increases safety. Tear-resistant material and a firm connection to the scaffolding make it ideal for high-rise construction, renovation, and traffic zones with public access.
Material of the scaffolding nets
Our scaffolding nets are made from two proven materials – both specifically developed for demanding outdoor use:
- HDPE fabric (High-Density Polyethylene): This material is particularly tear-resistant, UV-resistant, and weather-stable. HDPE is excellent for long-term use – for example, on permanently scaffolded buildings or on large construction sites with high safety requirements.
- Raschel fabric: A textile net material with a fine mesh structure that impresses with its high flexibility and crease resistance. It is ideal for temporary scaffolding coverings or at events. Thanks to its open structure, it is also very wind-permeable, thereby reducing wind load on the scaffolding.
Both variants are fire-retardant according to B1 standard (DIN 4102) and can be individually customized – for example, with eyelets, hems, or Velcro systems for easy installation.
Our scaffolding nets are available in various sizes and colors. This way, you always have the right size for your facade scaffolding:
- Scaffolding safety net with print: 1.75 m / 2 m / 2.6 m / 3.1 m x 25, 50, or 100 m
- Scaffolding safety net without print: 1.75 m / 2 m / 2.6 m / 3.1 m x 100 m
- Side protection net: 2 m x 10 m
- Cover net: 3.6 m x 100 m, available in the colors white, blue, and green
Installation
The scaffold net must be taut against the scaffold structure to avoid fluttering movements. Depending on the scaffold construction, cable ties, tensioning devices, rubber loops, or custom-made eyelet strips are suitable.
bannerstop delivers your construction safety nets precisely prepared: with edge reinforcement, eyelets at the desired distance, or sewn-on Velcro. When using large advertising nets, pay attention to wind-permeable materials to avoid affecting the stability of the scaffold. Regularly check the secure fit, especially in windy conditions, weather changes, or heavily frequented construction sites.
